Where to start
Start with Fourth Wing and read in publication order. The publication order is also the story order, and there are no prequels to slot in. Read Threshing Day after Onyx Storm: it revisits Basgiath from other riders’ points of view, and it lands best once you know who those riders become. Our Threshing Day guide covers what is in it.
What comes after Onyx Storm: Book 4 and Book 5
Confirmed Threshing Day is out (September 29, 2026, Entangled). It is “a companion collection, not the continuation of Violet and Xaden’s story after Onyx Storm”, in the words of the official Threshing Day site.
Confirmed Book 4 is being written. Announcing her fall tour in September 2026, Yarros said the season was “wildly busy between releases and writing book four” (Winter is Coming).
Confirmed Five books are planned. Yarros has described the series as plotted through Book 5 and the ending (TODAY, January 2025).
Not confirmed Any Book 4 title or release date. The publisher hasn’t announced either. Fan sites guessing 2027 or 2028 are guessing.
Companion books and spin-offs
- Threshing Day (2026) is the only companion book so far. It has 13 stories, and the deluxe first edition adds 16 colour illustrations by Joe Requeza (US and Canada only).
- Fourth Wing, The Graphic Novel: Volume One is due April 6, 2027 from Ten Speed Graphic. Yarros adapted it herself, with art by Anabel Rossi (rebeccayarros.com; Kirkus). It retells book 1 and is not new story.
The Fourth Wing TV series
Confirmed Prime Video gave Fourth Wing a series order on May 12, 2026, announced at Amazon’s upfront. Meredith Averill (Wednesday) is showrunner, Lisa Joy directs the first episode, and Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society produces. Yarros is an executive producer (Deadline; TheWrap).
Not confirmed Cast and premiere date. No actors had been announced for Violet or Xaden as of October 2026, so the names online are fan-casting.
